I have practiced law and maintained an office in Angleton, Texas, for more than twelve years. My practice has included both civil and criminal matters, with an emphasis in appellate law. I believe my appellate experience is crucial to the qualifications of a judge. Appellate law pertains to the formal review of court room proceedings for judicial review of adjudications and rulings made by the trial judge. This experience requires me to maintain a constant review of both legislative laws and appellate opinions provided by the higher courts of Texas and the United States. A poor judicial decision at either the District Court level or the County Court level can result in the retrial of both criminal and civil matters thus ensuing additional tax dollars and judicial time.
I have worked in various jurisdictions in the State of Texas and have gained an important insight into the different approaches of court calendar scheduling. This knowledge, I believe, will be essential in improving the 149th Judicial District Court’s effectiveness with regards to the litigation of issues. Such an improvement can provide a greater return in the judicial process thus allowing the court to accomplish more for the citizens of Brazoria County.
